What’s in the test

Test uses real health scenarios – so you’ll feel confident. The OET Test is divided into four sub-tests: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking.

  • Approximately 40 minutes
  • Three parts in the sub-test
  • 42 questions to answer in total

Reading

  • 60 minutes in duration
  • Three parts in the sub-test
  • 42 questions to answer in total

Writing

  • 45 mins in duration
  • Formal letter on a profession-specific matter using case notes
  • Marked by OET assessors using six assessment criteria

Writing assessment criteria

Speaking

  • Approximately 20 minutes
  • Two profession-specific roleplays (5 mins each)
  • Marked by OET assessors using official assessment criteria
